WSLS: Beau Biden kicks off Veterans and Military Families for Obama campaign
There are almost a million people in Virginia with direct ties to the military. The state is home to more than 63,000 active duty military personnel and more than 830,000 veterans making military issues an important part of the upcoming presidential election.
Beau Biden, the oldest son of Vice President Joe Biden is in Norfolk today kicking off the official Veterans and Military Families for Obama campaign. He says it started as a grassroots effort and the campaign is recognizing that effort tonight. Co-chairs have been named across the state, including Terry Ellen Carter from southwest Virginia.
Serving is something Biden knows about, as a Major in the Delaware Army National Guard and once deployed to Iraq.
“What I hear is that veterans share the same concerns that citizens that are in the civilian population do. One of the things I hear a great deal about it foreclosure and low people stay in their homes” says Beau Biden.
He also mentioned issues like veterans returning home trying to find jobs and dealing with healthcare.
