Delaware Online: On campaign trail, Beau Biden criticizes Akin, Ryan over ‘legitimate rape’
Campaigning in Pennsylvania today, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden criticized remarks made by Missouri Rep., and Senate candidate, Todd Akin suggesting that women can avoid pregnancy in cases of “legitimate rape.” Biden attempted to hang Akin’s remarks around the neck of Republican vice presidential choice Paul Ryan, the Wisconsin Congressman, reports the Morning Call newspaper in Allentown, Pa.
“I’m a prosecutor and attorney general and you know rape is rape, the President is exactly right,” Biden said. “I’m very interested to see why Paul Ryan chose to partner with Representative Akin on a number of pieces of legislation dealing withwomen’s health issues. I’ve got to do a little bit of research on that. But this idea that there is a definition of rape and forcible rape and legitimate rape, I find it preposterous. I am interested to see why Paul Ryan chose to partner with a guy who talks in those terms and uses that vernacular.”
