For months, Delaware’s attorney general and Eric Schneiderman, his New York counterpart, have been the prime holdouts over a proposed mortgage-scandal deal with the nation’s biggest banks.
Now their position — that a lot of investigating remains — is gaining support from colleagues in other states.
Every couple of weeks, a rash of headlines proclaim the top banks and the 50 state attorneys general are close to a deal that would fix the bad mortgages dragging down the economy. The leaks are so predictable that it’s easy to read them as part of a public relations campaign.
