The News Journal: AG’s office warns seniors of scam
Senior citizens are warned that scammers are using a new trick to get them to reveal sensitive information about their finances.
The state Attorney General’s Office said today that beginning this month, the federal government will be mailing $250 checks out to Medicare patients who fall into a gap in prescription drug coverage — commonly known as the “doughnut hole.”
The $250 benefit is part of the federal health care reform law enacted earlier this year.
Eligible Medicare recipients will receive their checks automatically, said Jason Miller, spokesman for Attorney General Beau Biden.
These recipients do not need to provide any personal information — such as credit card or bank account numbers — to receive their checks.
