The News Journal: Delaware Attorney General Biden back in public eye after mild stroke

DOVER — Attorney General Beau Biden made his first public appearance Tuesday since suffering a mild stroke in May.

Sporting a new tan and shaking hands with the press corps, Biden said he is “feeling great.” Biden, who appeared at a bill-signing in Legislative Hall, returned to work Monday.

Gov. Jack Markell signed a bill that increases the penalties for those caught carrying a concealed handgun without a permit. Biden’s office worked with lawmakers to draft the legislation. After the signing, Biden offered a few comments for the crowd of cameras and reporters.

“I am very, very grateful for the thoughts and prayers of so many people up and down the state of Delaware,” Biden said. “You feel those prayers.”

Biden thanked Markell and his wife, Carla, for visiting him in the hospital.

“I am happy to be back here in this building,” Biden said, referring to Legislative Hall.

Biden, who is running for re-election for a second term as attorney general, said he will be making appearances around the state for the July Fourth weekend. “At 4 and 5, my kids are still willing to come to parades with me,” he said.
